Welcome to affiliate marketing for beginners 2021 where I discuss:

- selecting a niche
- what the most profitable niches are
- why it’s important to start an affiliate marketing business that’s not complicated
- the best affiliate marketing course
So let’s get started.
What is affiliate marketing and how does it work?
Affiliate marketing is simply recommending other people’s products and receiving a commission when a sale is made.
An example of this is: Amazon pays a 4% sales commission on the sale of a $100 pair of shoes. When someone buys the $100 pair of shoes by clicking your affiliate link, you make a 4% commission. 4% of $100 is $4.
You made $4 just by linking to Amazon.
Note: An affiliate link is just a URL that businesses use to keep track of who to pay commissions.
Affiliate Marketing Terms
Affiliate – Someone who promotes a product or service to earn an affiliate commission.
Affiliate commission – Most products pay a percentage of the sales price as a commission. E.g If a product sells for $100 and the affiliate commission is 4%, you earn $4. 4% of $100 is $4.
Affiliate program – A business who wants to sell more products with the help of affiliates will set up an affiliate program, usually with the help of an affiliate marketplace.
Affiliate marketplace – An Affiliate marketplace usually is the payment processor or a site to connect affiliates and vendors.E.g Share-a-Sale is an affiliate marketplace for a range of businesses’ affiliate programs.
Selecting A Niche
What is a niche?
A niche is a broad topic or interest. E.g wealth, self-help, home and garden. You can drill down to sub-niches e.g personal development, french cooking, Australian blue chip share investing. But the more focused your niche is the less products you will have available to sell to your audience. But all these sub-niches are still broad and you would have many products available for you to promote.
The more niche-focused you are the more likely it is that you will become the expert for your sub-niche.
Before starting any affiliate promotion or business you need to select a niche. This can be difficult without any knowledge of niches.
Some people say you should follow your passion and you will never work another day. The problem with this is that some passion niches are not very profitable.
You can get a lot of website visitors and sell ad space but with some niches the money you earn won’t equate to much as the ad space is not valuable.
The top affiliate niches are:
- E-Business & E-Marketing
- Health and Fitness
- Betting Systems
- Business and Investing
All of these niches are very competitive but they are also in hot demand. This means there is enough customers for anyone who wants to promote products in these niches.
It’s not a good idea to follow your passion but if you decide that you want to promote products from one of these niches, it should be something you are interested in learning more about. It shouldn’t just be about the money because if you aren’t making money you will lose interest.
Another thing, you should only pick one niche. One niche is enough work. If you want to be successful, it is about all you will be able to handle.
Amazon Affiliate No Sales
Many affiliate marketing teachers suggest getting started with Amazon and physical products.
This might seem logical but there is a steep learning curve. The first being that you need to set up a blog, but not only that you need to write persuasive articles.
If you are not very good at writing articles to explain the features and benefits of goods, then this won’t work. Not only that you need to buy the product to describe your personal experience of using the goods.
Many product sites compare 5 or 6 products, and if you are comparing DSLR cameras, the only way to describe your experience is to have a friend with a camera shop, or to be a super affiliate who gets paid to promote cameras.
One of the issues with promoting physical products is that the commissions are low and to make a decent amount of money you need a lot of website visitors.
There are many other factors that make the Amazon path not newbie friendly, and one of these is the amount of competition for high paying niches.
What attracts affiliates to the Amazon path is that even though the commission is low at 4% on most products, whatever the customer buys you earn 4% on everything. This is how most affiliates make their money.
The Best Affiliate Marketing Course
The best affiliate marketing course is a program that I found by accident.
I have been doing affiliate marketing for a while now. Wherever you are on your journey, if you are reading this you are either just getting started or are still looking for the answer to earn online consistently.
A number of marketers who will use money and results to lure you into their programs. They will sell you half the story but they will never give you the answers you seek or make it easy for you to replicate what they are doing.
The reason for this is because they want to leave room for them to sell you another product. There are affiliates who buy product after product which promise to make the buyer money.
Some of the products are good, have good marketing and but are absolute junk. After you’ve spent a good amount of time buying these products you begin to understand and sift the junk from the value.
To do this though you need a program which will help you set up a real business, give you the tools, and explain the way to success.
I’ve found this by accident when I made a commission when I was promoting this business. When I made the commission, I thought I better buy the product and learn everything about it.
I did learn everything about it and I am still learning. In the training, they told me how to set up a real affiliate marketing business.
